Frequently asked questions
- Are my scans uploaded to a server?
- No. The camera feed, the captured images, and the finished PDF all stay on your device. The pages are assembled into a PDF locally in your browser, so nothing is transmitted anywhere.
- Why does the camera not start?
- Browsers only allow camera access on secure HTTPS pages, so the button will not work over plain HTTP. If the page is secure, check that you did not deny the camera permission earlier — you can reset it from the lock icon in the address bar — and that no other app is currently using the camera.
- What does the Document enhancement option do?
- It converts each capture to grayscale and stretches the contrast, which makes text darker and the paper background closer to white. This usually produces cleaner, easier-to-read scans of printed pages; turn it off if you want to keep the original colors.
- How do I get sharper, cleaner scans?
- Light and flatness matter more than the camera. Put the page in bright, even light — daylight near a window is ideal — flatten it with a hand or a book edge, fill the frame with the page and hold the phone parallel to it rather than at an angle. The Document enhancement option then takes care of the contrast.
- Can I scan many pages into a single PDF?
- Yes. Press Capture once per page and every capture is added to the page list, where you can reorder or delete pages before exporting. Download PDF then combines all of them, in the order shown, into one multi-page PDF file.
About this tool
This document scanner turns your phone camera or webcam into a scanner without installing an app. Start the camera, hold each page in the frame and press Capture; every capture joins a page list you can reorder or prune, and one click exports the whole set as a single multi-page PDF. An optional enhancement mode converts captures to high-contrast grayscale, which makes printed text noticeably crisper.
Unlike most scanning apps and websites, everything stays on your device. The live camera feed is displayed straight from the browser’s camera API, captures are processed on a local canvas, and the PDF is assembled by JavaScript in the page itself. No image, page or document is ever uploaded, which matters when you are scanning contracts, IDs, medical paperwork or anything else confidential.
It covers the everyday cases where a real scanner is missing or overkill: sending a signed contract back by email, archiving receipts for an expense report, submitting homework or forms as a PDF, and digitizing letters before they get lost. Because it runs in the browser, it works the same on a phone at a kitchen table and on a laptop with a webcam in an office.
A few seconds of setup improve every page: scan in bright, even light, keep the camera parallel to the paper so text lines stay straight, and let the page fill as much of the frame as possible — resolution spent on the table around the document is wasted. For mixed documents, leave enhancement on for text pages and turn it off for photos or color-critical pages before capturing them.
